TURKEY Recovery After Pneumonectomy for Lung Cancer. —In Anadolu Kliniği, Istanbul periodical, Recai Ergüder, professor of the second surgery clinic of the Gülhane Military Medical Academy Hospital, and his senior assistant, Dr. Orhan Bumin, described the clinical manifestations and diagnostic procedures of carcinoma of the lung. After a brief description of the first case in which surgical treatment has been successful in Turkey, they discussed the technique of pneumonectomy, the operative mortality, and the five year recovery rate. The patient, a 50-year-old military officer, had influenza for two weeks but had not fully recovered when he returned to duty. After three days the cough increased, pain developed in the back, his temperature rose to 39 C, and the patient was admitted to the hospital. He was weak, had no appetite, and had an audible wheezing cough of 20 days' duration. His father had died of cancer of the tongue.
