Abstract INTERPRETATION of various pigmented lesions of the posterior pole have interested ophthalmologists for many years. This article describes a unique case of traumatic hemorrhagic detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium followed with serial fundus photography and fluorescein angiography which accurately differentiated the initial mass from possible confusion with a neoplasm and ultimately resolved the anatomic disturbances responsible for the clinical picture. Report of a Case A 24-year-old Negro man entered the Wills Eye Hospital emergency room complaining of blurred vision following a fist blow to the right eye. Physical examination revealed superficial lacerations of the scalp over the occiput and right ear, along with edema and ecchymosis of both right lids. The best corrected visual acuity was 20/400 in the right eye, 20/20 in the left. The right pupil reacted sluggishly to light. There was a "strand" of hemorrhage on the iris inferonasally at 5 o'clock with an otherwise clear References 1.
