THE OBJECTIVES OF THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION In San Francisco one year ago the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association conferred the highest honor within its power on one of our nation's great medical statesmen, Dr. Olin West. It was a fitting climax in the life of a man who for more than twenty-five years had been a loyal servant to the medical profession. It is appropriate on the occasion of the Centennial Celebration to pay this word of tribute to that Southern gentleman who elevated his profession, served his nation and enriched his fellow man. The American Medical Association is highly honored to have as its guests so many distinguished men from other nations of the world. Medical science extends beyond national frontiers. A discovery of importance in one nation ultimately becomes the property of all. The World Medical Association in the field of health is developing a program to facilitate the spread of medical knowledge to all parts of the world.
