The Limbal Approach to Surgery of the Rectus Muscles

The Limbal Approach to Surgery of the Rectus Muscles Abstract V ARIOUS techniques have been described for exposing the rectus muscles in strabismus or retinal detachment surgery. Most of these methods consist of direct or indirect transconjunctival incisions anterior or posterior to the muscle insertion or are in the fornix. Tenon's capsule is opened and closed separately from conjunctiva or is not closed at all in most of these procedures. Each of these methods has its advantages and disadvantages, but each is somewhat short of an ideal technique that is technically simple and minimally traumatic, provides quick access to the muscle, and yields a perfect cosmetic result soon after surgery. Such an ideal technique has already been described in recent years,1-5 but it has, in my opinion, not found the general acceptance that it deserves. This paper will illustrate the limbal approach in strabismus surgery and will report on the favorable experiences with this method at the Wilmer Institute References 1. Abstract

Abstract V ARIOUS techniques have been described for exposing the rectus muscles in strabismus or retinal detachment surgery.
