Abstract In this remarkable monograph the author describes the results of an investigation of the highest nervous activity of children, especially the motor system, by using the experimental methods of Luria (Arch. f. Psychiat.87:471, 1929). The method is simple and consists of tapping a key the vibration of which is transmitted to a tambour and from there recorded on a drum. The simplicity of the method makes it possible to use it for experimental work with children. The author's research brings out significant data concerning the processes of excitation and inhibition as well as voluntary action in the growing child. As a control, the responses of mentally deficient children, as well as of normal adults, are used.
