Test results encouraging for potential varicella vaccine

Test results encouraging for potential varicella vaccine Yet another viral disease of childhood is in sight of control by vaccination. At a workshop held recently at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md, speakers reported that a chickenpox vaccine that has been widely tested in recent years in immunocompromised persons is safe and immunogenic in normal children and adults. The workshop was sponsored by the Food and Drug Administration's National Center for Drugs and Biologics, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the National Cancer Institute. "We are looking at the varicella vaccine as an agent for use in normal, healthy children and susceptible adults as well as immunocompromised children," said Arlene A.
