Abstract Teratology: Principles and Techniques is a compilation of the lectures and demonstrations presented at the First Teratology Workshop held at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla, in February 1964, under the joint sponsorship of the Commission on Drug Safety and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association. The purpose of the workshop was to disseminate information on the principles and techniques of teratological research and the advent of this book will now enable a much wider audience to be reached. The editors, Dr. James Wilson and Dr. Josef Warkany, and the nine other contributors are all experienced in teratological research and highly competent in the areas and techniques which they discuss. The material presented has been carefully selected and includes the following topics: historical aspects of experimental mammalian teratology, genetic and environmental causes of abnormality, mechanisms of teratogenesis, teratogenicity of drugs, and autoimmune phenomena as causes of congenital malformations.
