Abstract The authors have recognized the need among residents, practicing dermatologists, and the generalist for a small textbook on skin surgery. There are many larger textbooks available, but this small book on surgery will appeal to the medical student or resident as an additional source of knowledge about dermatologic surgery. The chapters on emergencies and cardiopulmonary respiration are very well done and contain information that all physicians should have at their fingertips. Several chapters including such subjects as basic surgical principles, scalpels and scissor surgery, chemosurgery, hair transplantation, and nail surgery are well done with excellent photographs that are essential to an understanding of the details of the procedures described. Unfortunately, because of the volume's multiple authors, there are some inconsistencies and many chapters contain no illustrations and only lengthy descriptions of procedures ignoring the fact that a picture is worth a thousand words.
