Abstract Two new surgical procedures are presented for the treatment of upper eyelid retraction. These use a sensory nerve block so that the patients are awake and able to move their eyelids, thereby allowing the surgeon to make controlled adjustments for the amount of surgery to be done. One procedure, excision of Müller's muscle, was done on three lids that had overaction of Müller's muscle alone. The other, a combined procedure of excision of Müller's muscle and partial tenotomy of the levator aponeurosis, was done on four lids that had overaction of both Müller's and levator muscles. The results in all the cases were good in comparison with the results the authors obtained using other surgical techniques described for treating upper lid retraction. References 1.
