Abstract To the Editor: I am afraid that your reviewer read my recent article (Silverman, W. A.: The Status of Two-Year-Old Children Who Had Received Sulfisoxazole in the Neonatal Period After Premature Birth, J. Pediat. 54:741, 1959) with a somewhat jaundiced eye. He wrote, "The previous paper reported a significantly higher incidence of hyperbilirubinemia and kernicterus in those receiving the combination of penicillin and sulfisoxazole" (Traggis, D. G.: Abstract, A.M.A.J. Dis. Child. 99:394, 1960). As a matter of fact we reported (Silverman, W. A.; Andersen, D. H.; Blanc, W. A., and Crozier, D. N.: A Difference in Mortality Rate and Incidence of Kernicterus Among Premature Infants Allotted to Two Prophylactic Antibacterial Regimens, Pediatrics 18:614, 1956) that the incidence of hyperbilirubinemia was not higher in the infants who received these drugs. Though I write primarily to reveal this error, I cannot resist pointing out how often this kind of mistake occurs.
