Abstract Nobody knows what makes some people drive on from rather ordinary beginnings to great accomplishments, while others never seem to get their gears meshed efficiently, or if they do, they do nothing more than spin their wheels. Even an austerely factual biography is rarely able to tell us the true reason why a person was able to accomplish a great deal, though if good, it may tell us how. No doubt a great many people would like to accomplish something. Many have altruistic ideas and ideals, but little or nothing ever comes of it. Not so with the heroine of this book. She is a woman who has achieved major distinction in her native state in a long and active career devoted to the cause of education, particularly adult education. How did she do it?
