SOME DATA CONCERNING THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CEREBRAL CORTEX IN MAN: II. Postnatal... Abstract AS WAS indicated in an earlier publication,1 this study of the growth and development of the nervous system was initiated by the late Dr. T. Wingate Todd as a portion of a general program for the study of growth and development. Many factors have contributed to delay the publication of the available data, and the present study is the second of the series. The present communication concerns the growth of the cerebrum as it is reflected in the changes in surface area of the free, or visible, cortex. The cortical surface area was determined for 14 brains, of persons ranging in age from 3 weeks to 24 years, and figures were obtained for each lobe of the two hemispheres. In no case was the brain used when there was any indication of a primary disease process affecting the nervous system. For the purpose of measurement, the various lobes of References 1. Turner, O.
