Abstract
Abstract To the Editor.— This letter describes a case of secondary syphilis and sarcoidosis, which had been diagnosed radiologically. Report of a Case.— A 25-year-old woman had been under the care of a pulmonary specialist since December 1972; at that time, nodular densities in both lung fields were noted and a diagnosis of sarcoidosis was made. Previous chest x-ray films taken in June 1972 were normal and the VDRL test for syphilis and the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption test for syphilis (FTA-ABS) were nonreactive. In February 1973, two percutaneous lung biopsy specimens showed no evidence of granulomatous disease. Cultures of biopsy material were negative for tuberculosis and the patient did not report for reading of the purified protein derivative, monilial, or fungal skin tests. Since the patient had lived in Detroit, Mich all of her life, histoplasmosis and coccidioidomycosis were considered unlikely causal agents. On June 15, 1973, she came to References 1.
