Rhizopus Keratitis Following Corneal Trauma
Abstract
A 48-year-old man had a central corneal ulcer (A) after trauma with a metal wire. The patient began oral and topical treatment with voriconazole after a filamentous fungus consistent with Rhizopus species was cultured. The fungus exhibited autofluorescence on a hematoxylin-eosin–stained slide under a fluorescence microscope (original magnification ×400) (B) as well as eosinophilic hyphae with saccular dilation (hematoxylin-eosin, original magnification ×400) (C).
