Radiology Quiz Case 2

Radiology Quiz Case 2 A 3-year-old Hispanic boy presented with a right preauricular mass that had developed gradually over a period of 6 months. The overlying skin demonstrated intermittent erythema that lasted 1 to 2 days. On examination, the right preauricular mass, which measured approximately 1.5 × 2 cm, was well marginated, painless, and hard and appeared to be adherent to the skin and mobile over the underlying structures. The contours of the mass were irregular when the overlying skin was stretched. A noncontrast computed tomographic scan of the face demonstrated a partially calcified mass within the right preauricular subcutaneous tissues, without involvement of the subjacent parotid gland (Figure 1and Figure 2). The mass, including the overlying skin, was completely excised. Grossly, it was white-yellow, with a hard consistency and a gritty, friable texture. Figure 1. View LargeDownload Figure 2.
