Placebo Therapy

Placebo Therapy To the Editor.— I enjoy reading articles that have to do with placebo and placebo effect (242:247, 1979), so long as I do not have to agree with all or even part of what the various authors say. I will be extremely satisfied to continue treating each patient individually, in such manner as I believe is best at that time. There is no way that I can, or will, worry as to the concern of those who believe they are the definers of morality and ethics. When I am in the room alone with a patient, and possibly his family, the moment of truth is on us. What is moral for patient "X" with disease "Y" on Tuesday may be of questionable morality in patient "Z" with the same disease on Wednesday (or even the same Tuesday). To those who would force on me (us) their ideas on patient package http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png JAMA American Medical Association
