Abstract This book begins as follows: "The living body differs in many ways, just as in the study of ophthalmology, symptoms and signs of disease are different in children than in adults." A sensitive rhetorician would abandon the review right there. Some 32 authors of varying capacity have contributed 37 chapters of equal diversity to make up the volume. They describe methods of testing and examining the eyes of youngsters and discuss various diseases, not all of which are confined to children. It must be said here that anyone who offers a 403-page book for sale at $12 owes the potential purchaser a modicum of care in its preparation. This work offers little evidence of such care. The references are uneven and inexact. Sometimes the title of a paper is mentioned, sometimes not. Often the author's name is given with no accompanying initial, and sometimes the accompanying initial is wrong.
