Abstract This book represents a major revision of Pediatric Nephrology, first edited by Mitchell Rubin, MD, in 1975. As is pointed out in the preface, much has happened in pediatric nephrology in the time between the editions, and these changes are reflected in the greatly expanded length and breadth of the book. The editors have brought together a group of highly qualified clinicians and scientists, who have put together an impressive amount of information in a single volume. I was impressed with the generous use of figures, tables, and Photographs throughout the book. The chapters on methods of evaluation of the kidney and renal function were especially impressive. Overall, this book touches all the bases. However, it is my impression that in trying to reach a broad audience in the limited space of one volume, the editors have made the book superficial in many areas.
