Outlines of Inorganic Chemistry. The subject is presented through such experimental work as has long been tested in college and in such relation as to facilitate drawing the deductions essential to a proper comprehension. The consecutive experimental development of the principles on which systematic chemistry rests is considered, together with the electrical phenomena and ions and the constitution of the acids, bases and salts from the ionic point of view, and the thermal relations based on the recognition of equivalents, electrical, chemical and thermal. The molecule in its relation to the atom, in the light of the kinetic theory of gases, in the theories of Van t'Hoff and Werner, the phenomena of solutions, the electrolytic theory of dissociation and the modern conceptions of the ions are all discussed. The elements, their compounds and properties are considered in accordance with the periodic system.
