Osteomyelitis Caused by Viridans Streptococci

Osteomyelitis Caused by Viridans Streptococci Abstract • A 34-year-old man without known underlying disease was seen with osteomyelitis of the proximal shaft of the left femur. At operation, only viridans streptococci were isolated. The patient responded to a combination of intravenous penicillin G potassium and gentamicin sulfate therapy. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of osteomyelitis of a long bone produced by hematogenous seeding by viridans streptococci. (Arch Intern Med 1982;142:1739) References 1.
