This three-volume set certainly meets the goal of the author in compiling a comprehensive guide to management of hand and upper-extremity problems with special attention to operative technique. The list of authors represents a significant segment of "Who's Who" in hand surgery. These encyclopedic volumes actually represent a series of monographs. The length of some sections would certainly allow them to be published as a separate small volume. Dr Green has managed to insist that most of the numerous writers include some common features, which enhances the books. For the most part, the chapters are well written. The delineation of the "authors' preferred technique" adds a refreshing personal touch to an exhaustive work. Profuse photographs and excellent illustrations greatly enhance the written text. Inclusive bibliographies represent a valuable resource for those interested in any hand disorder. Dr Green sets the tone in chapter 1 by his excellent delineation of general
