P., an Italian girl aged 16 months, is presented from the Vanderbilt Clinic with anemia and a generalized cutaneous eruption, of one year's duration. She was well except for feeding problems until the age of 5 months, when tonsillitis and a temperature of 103 F. developed. She was given a sulfonamide drug, with the prompt development of a generalized hemorrhagic, vesicular eruption, including the palms and soles. Use of the drug was stopped, with gradual subsidence of the eruption during the next two weeks. At 7 months of age a scaling eruption of the scalp, eyebrows, and ears developed and persisted despite local therapy. Recurrent attacks of otitis, tonsillitis, and febrile convulsions led to the discovery of a severe anemia and an enlarged spleen. The patient was admitted to Babies' Hospital for study. The scalp shows a scaling, erythematous eruption http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png A.M.A. Archives of Dermatology & Syphilology American Medical Association
