NEW ENGLAND DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY

NEW ENGLAND DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY Abstract Melanoma. Presented by Dr. Paul J. Catinella. A white saleswoman, aged 65, developed pigmentation of the right cheek 19 years ago. This increased gradually in intensity and extent, and subsequently, growths appeared in the area of pigmentation. The patient consulted Dr. Francis M. Thurmon in August, 1956. At that time he found a fungating mass 2 cm. in diameter in the right premalar area and a dark-colored grape-like mass 1 cm. in diameter beneath the right eye, surrounded by dark pigment. He excised both lesions with a scalpel and desiccated the edges and entire bases of the excisions. The excised specimens were sent to the laboratory for pathological examination. Later, recurrent and new growths were excised and desiccated in the same manner by Dr. Thurmon, the last one being a lesion on the right upper eyelid on Jan. 6, 1959.Large confluent areas of light brown and very dark bluish-black http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Dermatology American Medical Association
