Massive Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage Due to Prolapse of Pyloric Gastric Mucosa in a Child: Report of a Case

Massive Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage Due to Prolapse of Pyloric Gastric Mucosa in a Child: Report... Abstract Massive gastrointestinal bleeding in childhood is an infrequent experience, when compared with the problem in adulthood. One finds only an occasional case of massive gastrointestinal bleeding in adulthood which is due to prolapse of the pyloric gastric mucosa into the duodenum. I have not found any reports in the literature of massive hemorrhage due to prolapse of gastric mucosa in childhood. Because of this, it was felt that this unusual problem which was encountered in a fortuitous manner should be reported. It is difficult to obtain constant statistics concerning the incidence of prolapse of the gastric mucosa. Many radiologists encounter this phenomenon when there are no gastrointestinal complaints, and others have reported from 1% to 18% of cases examined for gastrointestinal complaints to have a prolapse of gastric mucosa into the duodenum. Because of this it has come to be regarded as a normal physiological variant by most authors. The References 1. Allen, J. G.; Harkins, H. N.; Meyer, C. A., and Rhoads, J.
