Abstract Rapid new developments in the field of endocrinology and metabolism have made it almost impossible to have any one manual that can adequately summarize current relevant material in a compact and easily readable format. Dr Griffin, in a manual designed and written for "medical students, house officers, fellows and primary care physicians," has done an impressive job in presenting a concise and fairly up-to-date summary of the field. Each chapter covers a particular area of endocrinology and begins with a brief overview of the normal physiologic characteristics of the system to be discussed. The text is carefully edited, concise, and accompanied by appropriate diagrams and charts that enhance the material being presented. Despite the excellent summary of endocrinology, including approaches to treatment, there is almost no depth in the text on the subject matter presented.
