LYMPHOSARCOMA OF THE TONSIL: Review of Literature and Report of Two Cases

LYMPHOSARCOMA OF THE TONSIL: Review of Literature and Report of Two Cases Abstract LYMPHOSARCOMA of the tonsil is rare in the adult and very rare in the > child. Its cause is unknown. Five cases of its occurrence in children have been found reported in the literature. Cline1 in 1911 reported a case of sarcoma of the tonsil in a 22-mo.-old child; the tumor was removed, but there was recurrence, the tumor enlarging rapidly in all directions and causing death two weeks later. In 1931, Chappell2 reported the case of a 7-yr.-old child. He performed a tonsillectomy; three weeks later the mass had regrown. In spite of x-ray therapy, the mass extended in all directions, and the patient died five weeks after the tonsillectomy. Daufman3 records a case of lymphosarcoma in a 5-yr.-old boy, but details are lacking. Lopez4 reported a lymphosarcoma in a 3-yr.-old boy; the patient died rapidly in spite of two extirpations, x-ray therapy, and a References 1. Cline, L.
