Hyperparathyroidism With a Prolonged Period of Normocalcemia

Hyperparathyroidism With a Prolonged Period of Normocalcemia Hyperparathyroidism was proved in a patient who had intermittent hypercalcemia, with one period of normocalcemia which lasted for 12 months. We are in general agreement with others that parathyroid exploration should not be carried out in patients with normocalcemia, but the demonstration of a single or occasional elevation of serum calcium level may be very significant and should commit the physician to careful and prolonged observation of such patients. Evidence suggests that the blood level of parathyroid hormone was elevated even when the serum calcium concentration was normal. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png JAMA American Medical Association

Abstract

Hyperparathyroidism was proved in a patient who had intermittent hypercalcemia, with one period of normocalcemia which lasted for 12 months.
