Heterotopia of the Macula

Heterotopia of the Macula Abstract Heterotopia may be defined as a position other than the usual. The occurrence of small variations of the position of the macula in relation to the pupillary axis of the eye is evidenced by the variability of the angle K. If the macula is markedly displaced, an appearance of tropia may be simulated, or the apparent deviation in the case of a true tropia will be modified. Rados and Scholz1 recently reviewed the literature on this subject. They summarized a total of 19 cases for which they felt the information presented was sufficient for inclusion in their review, and added 8 more cases of their own, making a total of 27 cases reported thus far. Within one year of reading this paper, six additional cases have come to our attention. A study of these cases adds to our knowledge regarding both the possible etiologies of this fascinating condition and References 1. American Optical Co. 2. Rados, W. T., and Scholz, R.
