GROWTH OF THE HEART

GROWTH OF THE HEART In our studies on the shadows of the thymus and heart,1 our attention has been attracted to the sameness in the shape of the heart at different ages. So much so that in one of our studies2 we expressed the opinion that certain changes took place in the position of the apex beat which could not be explained on the basis of any rotation of the heart during the growth and development of the individual. We were much impressed with the similarity in the heart shadows of the individuals at the different ages studied, because it was possible in many instances to pick out from the different age groups of roentgenograms the heart of the particular infant. In order to convince ourselves further of the correctness of our impression, we have continued our original observations and have extended our study up to the thirty-ninth month.
