To the Editor.— I read with interest the article by Rubin et al1 that appeared in the March 1 issue of The Journal. The authors purport to describe the first fatal case of herpes simplex type 2 in a healthy adult without immunosuppression or encephalitis. In January 1983, the Southern Medical Journal published a similar case study prepared by me and my colleagues.2 http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png JAMA American Medical Association
