Evaluation of a Nasal Decongestant

Evaluation of a Nasal Decongestant Oxymetazoline hydrochloride, a recently introduced nasal decongestant of the imidazoline group (eg, naphazoline hydrochloride, tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride), represents a minor molecular modification of xylometazoline hydrochloride (New Drugs 1965, p 213). Its pharmacological and clinical actions are similar to those of the other imidazolines. The available data do not indicate that the effects of oxymetazoline, including its adverse reactions, are essentially different than those of other nasal decongestants, nor do the data permit an unequivocal conclusion that oxymetazoline has a longer duration of action. Controlled comparative studies of oxymetazoline with other vasoconstrictors have not been reported. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png JAMA American Medical Association
