Correction In a recent medical news article (1981;245:1799-1801) entitled "New studies confirm MAO inhibitors' efficacy in treating severe anxiety," the statement was made that hypertensive crises and cerebral hemorrhage could occur in patients being treated with MAO inhibitors if they ate foods containing tryptophan. This statement is in error. Tryptophan ingestion has not been associated with such events in patients being treated with MAO inhibitors. In fact, tryptophan has even been employed in conjunction with these agents, although therapeutic efficacy has not been clearly established. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png JAMA American Medical Association
