Congenital Rubella Syndrome Abstract To the Editor. —In the Archives (1981;99:433-434), Boger et al discuss "Spontaneous Absorption of the Lens in the Congenital Rubella Syndrome." In their review of the literature, they have overlooked my pertinent article entitled "Spontaneous Absorption of Congenital Cataract Following Maternal Rubella" (Arch Ophthalmol 1948;39:205-209).Unlike the cases they reported, I saw mine from the onset through the period of absorption. In the hospital nursery, when the four-week-premature infant was about 1 week old, I found a dense white cataract in each eye. At the age of 10 months, the right cataract was less dense, and a red fundus reflex could be seen. Three months later, the left lens showed similar clearing. The cataracts gradually were absorbed, permitting the child to walk about safely and recognize large objects. At the age of 3 years, in an effort to obtain better vision, discissions were performed in what proved to be References 1.
