CONGENITAL ABSENCE OF THE FOUR EXTREMITIES Ectromelia of the four extremities is one of the rarest of human congenital anomalies. A review of the literature reveals only 3 reported cases. Hare1 in 1859, Price2 in 1928 and Lereboullet, Benoist and Vanier in 19323 have reported single cases. To our knowledge only 2 persons with this anomaly are living in the world today, a 61 year old Frenchman, Pierre Mathieu, in La Gacilly, Brittany,4 and our patient. Several cases of absence of one or two extremities have been reported in the literature, but they are not within the scope of this paper. REPORT OF A CASE R. P. C., a boy of American-French parentage, aged 3 years at the time of this report, was delivered by one of us (R. E.) on Feb. 13, 1939, at full term. The mother's pregnancy was normal and her labor easy.
