Comparison Between FA Factor and LE Cell Tests Abstract The fluorescent antinuclear (FA) test for the lupus erythematosus (LE) factor tends to vary in its sensitivity with several steps involved in its performance. With leukocytes its sensitiity may be quite close to that of the LE clot procedure, although with nuclear material such as neonatal thyroid or tumor cells, its sensitivity is high. However, with the increased sensitivity there appears to be decreased specificity with this procedure. In spite of these limitations the fluorescent antinuclear factor test is a valuable aid in the diagnosis of lupus erythematosus and related auto-immune diseases. In brief, the fluorescent antinuclear test is the more sensitive and the LE cell tests the more specific in the detection of the LE factor. References 1.
