Common Skin Diseases: Diagnosis and Treatment.

Common Skin Diseases: Diagnosis and Treatment. This article is only available in the PDF format. Download the PDF to view the article, as well as its associated figures and tables. Abstract The first edition of this concise and compact atlas and compendium of common skin diseases was a pretty good book. The second edition is an excellent one. It is copiously illustrated with good color pictures, and the text is brief and direct. It is not for the dermatologist, though even he might find a "pearl" here and there, but for the generalist and the pediatrician. It is not about dermatomyositis and Wegener's granulomatosis; it is about acne and atopic dermatitis, herpes zoster and hirsutism, pruritus and pediculosis, seborrheic dermatitis and sunburn. Both the scope and the treatment are eminently practical and so sound that any specific criticisms would be carping at trifles. There is a 21-page formulary at the end, with admirably liberal use of proprietary preparations under their commercial names, and a good index. The nondermatologist ought to have this book on his desk for ready reference. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Internal Medicine American Medical Association
