Abstract Until recently, it has been necessary to use mainframe or minicomputers to manage and analyze even moderately complex data, but now, many database management programs are available for use with personal computers. Generally directed toward either those who use personal computers for business or toward those who use them at home, the sophistication of these packages varies greatly. One such system, Clinical Research System II (CRS) (International Medical Products Corp, Minneapolis) is specifically designed for the analysis of medical data and the management of clinical studies. This system attempts to provide, in a single package, a system for tracking patients enrolled in clinical studies, and managing and statistically analyzing these data. The greatest advantage of this package is that it is specific to medical studies, thus filling a gap in available software systems.
