Most of the authors are not well known outside of the Boston area. However, Irving Kaufman, MD, Eli H. Newberger, MD, and Shirley L. Bean, ACSW, are respected throughout the nation for their work in child abuse and related areas. The content of the book focuses on a philosophical approach to child abuse, professional role descriptions, and program descriptions. This material is presented in articles that are usually concise and to the point, although there is a tendency among the contributors in the field of social work to expound on case histories.
