Cancer Respects Neither Regions Nor Persons

Cancer Respects Neither Regions Nor Persons More than 5 million persons throughout the world have cancer in some form, and the disease as a cause of death shows an increasing rate, announced the World Health Organization. WHO's statistical study of cancer is still in its initial stages, according to officials of the organization, and in some cases the figures are incomplete, unrefined, and may even appear contradictory. Latest figures sent to WHO from 35 countries or areas around the world indicate that cancer, in all its forms, is no respecter of either regions or persons. It occurs in almost anyone, from the sophisticated New Yorker to the African tribesman. Statistics to date also indicate that the disease is more prevalent in Europe than in the US, Canada, or Latin America. Deaths per 100,000 population in the US from all forms of cancer were 149.4. In Canada, the rate was 129.7, in Chile 97.9, and in Columbia, http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png JAMA American Medical Association
