Abstract This book contains the transcribed proceedings of the third Conference on Brain and Behavior held in 1963 at the University of California at Los Angeles. The title of the conference was "The Brain and Gonadal Function," and the principal topics discussed were quite varied: the nature of the anatomical connection between the anterior pituitary and the hypothalamus; the neuroanatomical substratum for genital sensation and sexual motor responses; elicitation of sexual behavior from neural implants of sex steroids or systemic injection; neural control of gonadotrophin secretion, particularly with respect to the hypothalamic "releasing factors" for anterior pituitary secretion; and the feedback of gonadal steroids of gonadotrophin secretion rates and various measurements of neural thresholds. The volume has in its favor the intrinsic importance of the kind of work being reported.
