BODY BUILD FACTOR IN THE BASAL METABOLISM OF BOYS In determining the nutritional status of a child many investigators independently have concluded that the body build factor must be considered. Franzen1 in a comprehensive report gives all the possible skeletal measurements and their correlations with nutrition and health. Lucas and Pryor2a reported the use of the width-length index, which, as mentioned in a previous article,3 I have found very practical. Lucas and Pryor2b stated: "The width-length index is an expression of the relationship of the width to the length of the body. It is obtained by measuring the diameter of the crest of the ilium and the standing height. The crest measurement is divided by the height to give the relative breadth of the body, or width-length index. This index represents width in per cent of standing height. Weight does not enter into the calculation.
