Angewandte Paediatrie: Ein Nachschlag—und Lesebuch für Studierende und Arzte. The author of this textbook has had unusual pediatric experience, having worked at first as an assistant in the University of Prague, then in Vienna, and finally, after the first world war, he became Professor of Pediatrics at the newly created Clinic in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. This textbook is interesting and new in its approach. It is written not only for the student of medicine but particularly for the general practitioner in his role as a family physician. Although the author realizes that the modern trend in the practice of medicine is away from the family physician, still he is rather optimistic concerning a revival of this type of physician. The book is not greatly concerned with detailed descriptions of the symptoms of diseases, as a knowledge of these symptoms is, to a great extent, taken for granted.
