AMA Endorses Declaration

AMA Endorses Declaration Eight major US medical organizations, whose membership includes the majority of clinical investigators, have formally endorsed the Declaration of Helsinki. Approval of the statement which offers ethical guidelines for clinical research, was announced through a joint resolution after more than two years of informal and formal discussions. Signatories, including the American Medical Association, are: The American Federation for Clinical Research, American Society for Clinical Investigation, Central Society for Clinical Research, American College of Physicians, American College of Surgeons, Society for Pediatric Research, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. It is hoped endorsement of the Declaration will encourage, rather than terminate, already-active discussions of research ethics, said Roy E. Ritts, Jr., MD, Director of the AMA's Institute for Biomedical Research. Dr. Ritts, Hugh H. Hussey, MD, Director, Division of Scientific Activities, and other AMA leaders participated in the series of interorganization meetings which led the AMA Judicial Council to recommend approval http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png JAMA American Medical Association
