There are occasions when peritoneal dialysis is the appropriate treatment for patients with chronic renal failure. Some patients are best treated in this way permanently, and in others temporary treatment is indicated. In this study, an indwelling silicone rubber tube is used for this purpose in 34 patients. The procedure is simple and safe, and, apart from its benefit in the clinical situations outlined, it is of great value in relieving the congestion often found in chronic renal failure units.
