TY - JOUR AU1 - Kumar, Shashi AU2 - Yadav, Apurv AB - Petroleum-based fuels are continuously depleting and will vanish in the coming years. Among the biomass sources, vegetable oils and animal fats have attracted much attention as a potential renewable resource for production of an alternative for petroleum-based diesel fuel. In the present work, preheated thumba oil is used to prepare three different concentration blends with diesel, B20, B40, and B60 to run a single cylinder CI engine. The results of the engine parameters when blends are used as a fuel are compared to the results with pure diesel. The brake thermal efficiency of B20 blend was found to be higher than diesel and other blends. Brake-specific fuel consumption and brake-specific energy consumption of B20 were less than other blends but slightly more than diesel. By combining the effect of all the parameters, B20 blend was found to be a suitable alternative for diesel fuel.
