TY - JOUR AU1 - Vaughan, Edward AU2 - McLean, Jeffrey AB - This paper reports on a survey of management selection practices among Australian business firms and discusses the conclusions that could arguably be drawn from it about the quality of Australian business management. The survey found, generally, that management selection in Australian business firms pays little heed to research reports and recommendations in personnel selection literature, and relies extensively on assessment methods that have poor predictive validity and low reliability. This must cause one to doubt whether the best qualified persons are being appointed to manage Australian business.
