AB - Abstract To the Editor.— A 73-year-old woman was seen because of small tumors on her left knee that had occurred in the previous two years. History indicated that this patient had had tuberculous arthritis of the knee 60 years before, and had received x-ray therapy (total dose of 1,900 rads ranging from 50 to 80 kV) without a filter.At the level of the knee joint, she had a large, eroded, tumor about 3 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. Over the knee joint were about 100 verrucose tumors, some covered by crusts or scales, ranging in size from 3 to 15 mm (Figure). The entire involved area of skin was removed by the plastic surgeon and it was allowed to heal per secundam.Microscopic examination showed that all tumors, notwithstanding their clinical appearance, were either solid or superficial basal cell carcinomas.Earlier cases of carcinoma occurring in areas of radiodermatitis References 1.
