TY - JOUR AU1 - Allen, Joseph AU2 - Butler, Bettie AB - The following is a review of the text Shoptalk: Lessons in Teaching from an African American Hair Salon, by Majors (2017). In this text, the author asserts that adopting “shoptalk”, a culture specific form of community discourse found in African American hair salons/barbershops, as a pedagogical practice, can sustain cultural pluralism of marginalized students in public education. This text is especially valuable to education research and practice in that it is one of the few, if not the only, text available on the market that attempts to provide a specific example for the implementation of culturally relevant pedagogy.
