TY - JOUR AU1 - Ekman, Rainer AB - Introduction A number of guaiacyl lignans are present in spruce wood. In an early paper Freudenberg and Knof (1957) reported the occurence of several main components making up approximatively 0.4 per cent by weight of dry wood. The spruce oleoresin was investigated for lignans by Weinges (1960). In these studies the lignans were separated by liquid-liquid extraction using the countercurrent distribution technique. The first description of gas Chromatography (GC) of lignans was given by Ayres and Chat er (1969), who found that the principal classes and geometrical isomers may usually by distinguished. Hereby less polar compounds and those where the polar groups could blocked by methylation were studied. Krahmer et al. (1970) used the GC of the trimethylsilyl (TMS) ethers for determination of the cellular distribution of lignans in Tsuga heterophylla wood. By this technique very small deposits in the heartwood could be analysed for hydroxymatairesinol, matairesinol and -conidendrin. Similarily Shain and Hillis (1971) analysed sound and Fomes annosusaffected tissues of Norway Spruce. Hydroxymatairesinol, matairesinol, liovil and -conidendrin were identified in sound heartwood and in the narrow reaction zone separating sound sapwood from wood incipiently decayed by F. annosus (Fr.) Cke. It was proposed that the high hydroxymatairesinol TI - Analysis of Lignans in Norway Spruce by Combined Gas Chromatography — Mass Spectrometry JF - Holzforschung - International Journal of the Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Technology of Wood DO - 10.1515/hfsg.1976.30.3.79 DA - 1976-01-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/de-gruyter/analysis-of-lignans-in-norway-spruce-by-combined-gas-chromatography-UyPmDTqJxV SP - 79 EP - 85 VL - 30 IS - 3 DP - DeepDyve ER -
