TH E EDITOR of the well-known German Old Testament journal (ZAW) here provides us with an important addition to the literature on Old Testament theology. This volume on the theological foundations of the Old Testament takes its place beside the same author's History of Israelite Religion ( 1969), following upon earlier treatments of the Tradition and History of the Exodus (1964), Studies in Old Testa­ ment Prophecy (1967), and Studies in Old Testament Theology and Hutory (1949- 1966) —all appearing in German, the last in 1969. In the fourth chapter on the unity in multiplicity, the author presents the basis upon which his work stands: the central or midpoint of Old Testament theology. That is the divine lordship and the divine community.
